reprimanded and cautioned against a repetition of the discreditable acts which then occurred, and in reliance upon your confession of guilt and expression of regret His Excellency decided to give you another chance believing that in return for that act of clemency you would rehabilitate yourself in the estimation of the Government and obliterate all recollection of your past disgrace by renewed energy and good conduct.
His Excellency would ask how have you repaid him for his forbearance? Certainly not by abstention, but on the contrary by pursuing at intervals your evil habits, thus putting him in a most deplorable and embarrassing position from which he can hardly escape without laying himself open to a charge of weakness or of favouritism. The Governor feels most strongly that you fully deserve dismissal from the service, that you have proved your unfitness for the position of responsibility you hold, and that, looking to the nature of your duties, Government is running some risk in retaining your services.
Dr. Atkinson and others have however urged upon His Excellency's consideration several points in extenuation of the charges you have admitted. They are that you have to contribute to the support of a large family; that you have had only two months leave due to illness during the last 13 years; that you have rendered the Government valuable services during
